Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Playing Cards

Paul Bunyan Playing Cards -
Series Three Now Available!

Paul Bunyan and his most colorful logging camp characters have found their way onto this third deck of playing cards recently printed by the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Association (PBSBA). Paul, Lucette, Babe, Johnny Inkslinger and nine others are depicted at Byway area events and Byway locations, such as the Crosslake St. Patrick's Day Parade, Pequot's Bean Hole Days, the Old Grade Area in Timothy Township and Ideal Township's Annual Beef Feed, to name a few.

The compelling comic look of the Bunyan cast of characters was created by talented Pequot Lakes high school student, Brady Palmer. He worked over the summer with Byway Association representatives Carol Ottoson and Lynn Scharenbroich, creating characters with burly spunk and belly-laugh appeal.

To fund this project, the PBSBA secured lead sponsorship from Grand Casino Mille Lacs and support sponsorship from the Whitefish Area Tourism Association. The logos of both, as well as the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway logo, appear on the backs of this third deck of cards. Grand Casino Mille Lacs was the exclusive sponsor for the previous two decks.

The PBSBA has worked with area high school art students on each of the playing cards projects over the past five years. The first deck, a pen and ink depiction of Sites of Historic and Cultural Significance Along the Byway, was done by former Pequot Lakes student, David Schwen. The second deck, photographs of people and places along the byway, with the theme, Truth and Lore, was done by former Pine River student, Tracy Peterson.

You can purchase Paul Bunyan Characters playing cards at several area businesses, including some resorts, as well as the local Chambers of Commerce. Series One and Two decks are still available, so now's your chance to collect all three. Keep them at the cabin, pack them along with your coffee for your next fishing trip. Decks retail for $5.95/each.
