"No Tall Tale" Award given

Volunteerism is a long-standing and critical part of the fabric of living in communities all across the U.S. But here in Minnesota, we seem to surpass all records for volunteering in every facet of daily living. Well, it's no different for Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Association. Over the last 19 years, hundreds of volunteers have created, built up and literally donated thousands of hours and in-kind support to this national and state scenic byway dedicated to enhancing the recreational and economic resources along its 54 miles of county roads here in central Minnesota "SMACK DAB in the middle" of the Whitefish Chain of Lakes.

At the 19th Annual Meeting, Scenic Byway Chair, Cindy Nelson awarded Member/volunteer Mary Plein with a special "No Tall Tale" Award for her Bunyan-sized efforts supporting the Byway. Mary donates much of her time working on the website www.paulbunyanscenicbyway.org, blogs, press releases and helping at events such as last September's Auto Show and Fall Color Run during Crosslake Days. Like the award says, "Paul Bunyan Lives here!" And that makes it all worthwhile.
