Volunteers plant red maples

Volunteers came together Sat. Nov. 12 to plant 25 red maple trees at two locations along the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway. Ten of the trees are planted at the Crosslake Rec Area/US Army Corps Campground in memory of past Byway board member Ron Johnson. The remaining 15 maples are planted at the Ideal Township Park.

Byway board member, Dave Badger, coordinated the tree planting project with a vision to add color, beauty and diversity to the flora along Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway. In two years more planting is planned for areas along County Road 16. The Maple tree plantings are a great enhancement to the community, made possible with all volunteer labor and trees/materials paid for by Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Association.

A BUNYAN-SIZED THANK YOU to the hearty tree-planting volunteers (left to right) Darryl Skallet, Mary Badger, Dee Thiede, Dick Wilske, Dave Badger, Steve Wilske, and behind the camera Rod Nelson.
