How can a scenic byway contribute to the tourism product of an area?

How should a scenic byway be incorporated into existing marketing pieces? How can individual business properties take full advantage of their location on or near a scenic byway?

These questions will be addressed at the Congress of Minnesota Resorts (CMR) spring workshop to be held at the Hampton Inn in Bemidji on Monday, March 20.

    There are now fifty four miles in the collection of county roads that make up the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway. In 1998, when the Byway was officially designated, there were forty eight miles. At one time, early in the formation of the group, it was said that there were fifty one miles in the route.

    Odds at 1 in 30 and over a hundred prizes that included such big ticket items as an SUV, a pickup truck and a boat, motor and trailer, were enough to motivate eager ticket buyers to buy every available ticket even before the festivities began at the American Legion in Pequot Lakes on Saturday, September 13.

    In early May, the story of the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway was in front of the eyes of Federal Highway Department staff members. Our application for National Scenic Byway designation is being reviewed for specific content to determine if it makes the first cut. What is national designation?
