NMRHA Model Train Club Now Open to Public
The NMRHA model train club in Crosslake will be open on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm starting on October 5th. The new building, located downtown on County Road 66, is in the final phase of construction. Just look for the black steam engine-shaped sign in front of the building. Some finishing work will still be underway on the interior of the facility for the next few weeks, but the public is welcome to visit the museum and see the new building and the progress made in construction of the new train layouts.
Almost everything was lost in the June 2018 fire, so it is necessary to start over constructing new layouts, now that the new museum building is almost completed. The museum members have already begun building the Garden Scale (G scale) layout in the lower level, and the trains are running! The children’s layout, which they can control, features Thomas the Train, and is currently operational.
Loaner layouts, operating on the main floor, have been graciously provided by the Twin City Model Railroad Museum. These loaner layouts will be operating for several months while the NMRHA members construct the new G scale, O scale (Lionel), and HO layouts.
New tables need to be built, and the track laid. New buildings, trees, lakes, and other scenery will be built and added over time, in accordance with design plans. Construction of the new layouts will be ongoing over several months/years. It will be interesting for visitors to see the status of the new layouts, the process used to complete them, and to see how they will change over time.
New members and visitors are welcome to help build the new layouts and trains, and to improve the current loaner layouts. The current members are looking for people with skills such as electrical, construction, graphics, design, and an interest in having fun with model trains - to help build new layouts. If you are interested in becoming involved with this project, contact the museum at 218-692-1900, or stop in and talk to the members. All aboard!
