Explore the Lore When Lions Roar

Paul Bunyan recently spent quite a bit of time with Lions. It was a departure from hanging around with a Blue Ox, but both Paul and the Lions had a great time!

Indeed, Paul Bunyan was a welcomed celebrity at the Lions Mid-Winter Convention, hosted by the Whitefish Area Lions and the Crosslake-Ideal Lions, held January 14-16 at Breezy Point Resort.  The theme for the Convention, ‘Explore the Lore When Lions Roar’, was based on the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway’s theme, ‘Explore the Lore’.

Photo opportunities with Paul Bunyan were worked into both the Friday afternoon and Saturday evening schedules.  Lion, Linda Ulland, secured the Paul Bunyan character services from Rod Nelson, a Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Association board member and one of three Paul Bunyan character performers available for local events through the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Association. Lion Vicki Hanson coordinated the photo sessions during the Convention and handled the instant printing of the photos for attendees to take with them as souvenirs.

The Byway theme was also worked into the Convention pin.  Lions have been collecting and trading pins for many years.  Every convention has a pin designed especially for that year and the theme.

The Mid-Winter Convention welcomed over 300 attendees, with several of them, including a leader-dog-in-training, taking advantage of the Photo with Paul Bunyansouvenir opportunity.
